Ladybird, Gloss and Etcetera in the 21st Century

Woolies Head Office in Marylebone, London - worldwide headquarters of Ladybird, Gloss and Etcetera

72 years after Mr. Pasold, the inspiration behind Ladybird, made his first visit to Woolworths Head Office, a dedicated team of buyers, designers and garment technologists continue to develop the dream.

Back in 1932 Pasold were at the forefront of new technology to deliver superior quality and good design.  And today, the very latest computer-aided design technology and fast digital communication across the world help the team to develop  concepts on the screen that can be sent to the factory in an instant for samples to be made and ideas to be tested.

This allows the team to bring together the very latest characters from television and films, design ideas from the catwalks of the world and time-served proven principles of good design and quality control to make a magic combination, that available in High Street stores across the UK, and rapidly spreading across the world.

...but they're still made of the finest material, under strict quality control.

New Ladybird Displays at Woolworths in Kingston-upon-Thames (No. 43) in November 2003

The look and feel of store displays is changing too, following successful trials of brighter, better layout in Autumn 2003.  We've been talking to customers to come up with displays that are easier to browse and shop, and practical to maintain and look after.

Mums told us they wanted more co-ordination in the ranges and for items that go together to be displayed together.  We've done our best to oblige !

We've extended the range of Gloss accessories and redesigned the display fixtures to make them easier to look at and try on.

In Woolworths Big W, alongside Ladybird and Gloss we're developing a whole new range of clothing under the Etcetera Label.  It's stylish and fashionable and made to withstand the pressures of modern living.  Easy care, easy wear and easy on the pocket too.

As you'd expect the displays are big and bold, and easy to shop.  And the range is huge.

To make shopping easier, we've included a kids play area, a Big Café for a snack or a drink, and extended ranges of sportswear and shoes for all the family.   Ladybird in the foreground and Etcetera Menswear at the new Woolworths Big W store in Kingston-upon-Hull in October 2003

Etcetera is new and still growing and developing.  It's well worth checking your nearest Woolworths Big W store to catch up with the latest designs.  It's part of a proud tradition that helped dress our great-grandparents and send them back to school before World War I, that keeps evolving and changing to suit the needs of mums, dads and kids in the third millennium.
