Meet the team from Southend-on-Sea

Meet the team at the Woolies store in Southend, pictured at the end of the Great War in 1918. The picture appeared in the staff magazine in 1938, with a colleague describing it as the small, old store and noting how expensive it must have been before staff uniforms were introduced in the 20s.

The store has been rebuilt twice over the intervening 85 years, but remains a popular favourite in the Essex seaside town.

For comparison we've included a picture of an American team, also taken in 1918.
